Raoul Servais’s first real animation film, Harbour Lights (1960) is an adaptation of  the traditional Flemish children’s song, Het Loze Vissertje (The Cunning Little Fisherman).

From his early experimental films (De zandloper / The Sandglass, 1950) to his animation shorts (Havenlichten / Harbour Lights, 1960) and hybrid life action/animation films like the international coproduction Taxandria (1994), the sea – in many disguises – is never really out of sight in Raoul Servais’ oeuvre (1928).

This is a timeline of American animation studios’ active production of regularly released cartoon shorts for theatrical exhibition. Some studios continue to release animated shorts to theaters on an infrequent basis. The colors correspond to the animation studio’s associated theatrical distributor.
