Next to being a chocolate magnate (Daskalidès and Leonidas), a gynecologist, a communist and a jazz musician, Jean Daskalides (1922-1992) was also a film maker. After making amateur films for over 20 years, he tries his hand at a fiction film in the mid-1970s. Kruiswegstraat, 6/6, Rue du Calvaire (1973) tells a story about the francophone bourgeoisie in Ghent. His business booms when he starts a bi-weekly newsreel about Ghent actualities in the mid 1970s.
